Sometimes, I have hard days. Full of hard questions. And hard problems. Just me? I didn’t think so.
I don’t know how else to say this. Sometimes, I get low. Mortality hurts! Because we weren’t created to be mortal! We were created perfect, and with the potential for eternal life! Well, a couple of us were, anyway. But since the fall of mankind, the hard fact of our mortality is evident everywhere we look. Not to mention all the other things we face as believers in a lost and dying world.
Sometimes, I know what I need is to just muscle up and slough off the dread, the despair, the sadness. To just throw it off and replace it with something lighter. A garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness, if you will.
If there’s anyone who knew fear or anguish, it was King David. He reminds us in Psalm 139 that the Lord is our Creator, and there’s no part of us that He doesn’t know. There’s nowhere we can go where He doesn’t see. He’s always beside us. And even on the hard days, we can ask Him to search our hearts and correct our course, and we can know that He’ll be faithful to do it! When our frail human hearts just refuse to be uplifted, we can defiantly choose to praise Him anyway— for we’re fearfully and wonderfully made!
